Top Ten Tuesday

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, this week's topic is Top Ten Romances in Books - just in time for
Valentine's Day!

1.) OF COURSE YOU KNEW THE TOP SPOT WOULD GO TO THESE TWO:
Ralph de Bricassart and Meggie Cleary: The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough.

2.) Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

3.) Colonel Brandon and Marianne Dashwood: Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

4.) Bridget Jones and Mark Darcy: Bridget Jones' Diary by Helen Fielding

5.) Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler: Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell

6.) Princess Buttercup and Westley: The Princess Bride by William Goldman

7.) Othello and Desdemona: Othello by William Shakespeare (an odd choice I know)

8.) Charles Darnay, Sydney Carton and Lucie Manette: A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens

9.) Noah and Allie: The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks

10.) Heathcliff and Catherine: Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte (Eh, I'm kind of wishy-washy on this one)

Okay I love the classics, so I have a lot to say. Don't hate me. :)

Colonel Brandon and Marianne--I just never thought Marianne was good enough for him, but I love Brandon.

Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett-YES! Even though Scarlett was an idiot.

Othella and Desdemona? I guess I can see that, but only if you look at pre-Iago involvement.

Great list!

Here's my pick with dystopian, bad boys, and calssics galore

Thanks for sharing!

Seriously, Othello and Desdemona? He chokes the woman who loved him so much that she pretty much lets him kill her.

Also, I'm not a fan of Cathy and Heathcliff, she's all spoiled and he's all broody emo. But I think if the right actor played him in a movie (i.e. a SUPER HOT actor) I could be more into him.

You do realize that most of your book romances don't end happy? lol
But Meggie and Ralph- sigh, so tragically lovely! And Colonel Brandon is a long time favorite of mine (although I suspect it's because I love Alan Rickman so much and watched the movie before I read the book). Scarlet and Rhett are a favorite too- and because I read the "sequel" I believe in their happily-ish ever after!

But Buttercup and Westley are the very bestest of the best!
